Australian Boulder Opals
Frequently Asked Questions
Lighting and Photography
Opals are optical gemstones, meaning their colour and brilliance depend on light. Because of this, how an opal looks can change under different lighting conditions and viewing angles.
All of our opals are photographed and filmed using LED lighting, which is the industry standard for accurately showing opals. This controlled lighting allows us to present each stone consistently, honestly, and in a way that reflects how opals are most commonly viewed indoors.
We do not provide additional images or videos taken in darkness, sunlight, or other variable lighting conditions. These environments can distort colour, exaggerate brightness, or hide important details, and do not provide a reliable or fair representation of an opal.
Our approach ensures:
- Consistent presentation across all stones
- Accurate colour and pattern representation
- Fair comparison between opals
- A realistic view of how your opal will appear under good indoor lighting
This standard helps our customers make informed decisions and understand exactly what to expect when purchasing an opal from us.
